Co-op Gold finalists for Canadian Grand Prix
April 10, 2014
CO-OP® GOLD offers a range of products which deliver exceptional quality and value every day. This quality has translated into two Co-op Gold products launched in 2013 being finalists for the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards.
Co-op Gold Strawberry, Yogurt and Banana Smoothie and Co-op Gold Saskatoon Berry Premium Ice Cream are nominated in the private label category for confectionary, snacks and dessert items.
“Our team has been working hard over the past two years to rebrand the Co-op Gold and Centsibles product lines,” said Sav Bellissimo, store brands manager at Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). “Being a finalist is exciting because it really puts us on the map and is recognition from the industry that Co-op produces innovative private-label products.”
This is the first year FCL has submitted products for the awards. Bellissimo said the ice cream was particularly well-received as there has never been a private label ice cream incorporating Saskatoon berries. Not only does the ice cream taste rich and creamy, but it highlights the Prairies’ heritage.
“Store brands are really important to us and allow us to differentiate ourselves from other retailers,” Bellissimo said.
Three other products were submitted for the awards, including Westermelons, tequila lime barbecue sauce and Korean-style ribs.
Launched in 1994, the awards showcase and celebrate new products in 26 food, non-food and private label categories. The awards are organized by the Retail Council of Canada to encourage new product development and innovation.
The winners will be announced June 4 in Toronto.
